I'm cleaning out my old computer, and thought that by deleting the
identities in OE application would get rid of the various DBX files in the subject folder. It didn't. Could I just delete those dbx files without any problem ? Thanks, -- Steve Mc DNA to SBC to respond |

You want to delete the dbx files in the Message Store with OE closed. New,
empty folders will be placed in the folder tree when you open OE again. Tools>Options>Maintenance>Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start>Run>Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In WindowsXP, 2K & 3K, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start>Control Panel>Folder Options>View. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Steve Mc" <stevemc209@dnaglobal.net> wrote in message news:zTPef.16136$7h7.13040@newssvr21.news.prodigy. com... > I'm cleaning out my old computer, and thought that by deleting the > identities in OE application would get rid of the various DBX files in the > subject folder. Tools>Options>Maintenance>Store folder will reveal the location of your
current Identity's store. Write it down. In WindowsXP, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start>Control Panel>Folder Options>View. In Explorer, search for .DBX files. Any found which are not located in your current store...and which do not belong to any other identity in use on the machine (be it in your User Profile or another's)...may be deleted. (I'd delete the containing folder.) NB: There is *no* way to undo the deletions! Backup, backup, backup. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), AH-VSOP Steve Mc wrote: > I'm cleaning out my old computer, and thought that by deleting the > identities in OE application would get rid of the various DBX files in the > subject folder. Worked great.
Thanks, Re:NB: There is *no* way to undo the deletions! Backup, backup, backup. I had already copied everything to the new computer, so didn't need to BU this time, but will surely keep that for future reference. You're welcome. I assumed you wanted to *strip* all instances of you on the
old computer, but it would have been prudent of me to add what PA Bear did, just in case.
