Hi group,
I am very pleased with my IE 5.5 SP2 and *do not* intend to upgrade the browser itself at this time. Frankly I never use Outlook Express at all, but a friend does and is asking me for some help. I have already OE 5 and managed to set it up in a working condition, but soon realised that it differed quite a bit from my friends version 6. I am better than most at finding things on the Net with the notable exception of Microsoft stuff. I have just spent the better part of an hour clicking around and filling in search bars and being led around in circles at the M.com. Is it possible to upgrade only OE 5 to OE 6, and leave my browser as it is? Do you have a straight link to where I can download whatever it takes? I am not interested in a debate on this matter. Yeah, your friend has a more secure computer than you do. > I am better than most at finding things on the Net > with the notable exception of Microsoft stuff. > I have just spent the better part of an hour clicking > around and filling in search bars and being led > around in circles at the M.com. > > Is it possible to upgrade only OE 5 to OE 6, and > leave my browser as it is? OE and IE share files and you can't mix those versions without generating
problems, so you can't have different versions of IE and OE without having some problems arise. Basically the answer is no. If you have Virtual PC, you could set up the Virtual machine with IE and OE 6 and then keep your system the same. If your friend has problems, then post here or see some of the MVP websites that cover OE. steve <Lars@fake.com> wrote in message news:qplon1t9vdeu70pr5us4ngibpsp8sj6tto@4ax.com... > Hi group, > > I am very pleased with my IE 5.5 SP2 and *do not* > intend to upgrade the browser itself at this time. > > Frankly I never use Outlook Express at all, but > a friend does and is asking me for some help. > > I have already OE 5 and managed to set it up > in a working condition, but soon realised that > it differed quite a bit from my friends version 6. > > Do you have a straight link to where I can download > whatever it takes? > > I am not interested in a debate on this matter. > > > Lars > Stockholm |

Thanks Steve,
I had begun to realise that that is the case. ......... Long story of little general interst ........ This friend of mine is stationed in Africa for 4 months, and has a problem with not being able to send mail with his OE. Retrieve is fine. I set up his laptop a year ago to work with his ISP from home. That ISP blocks use of their SMTP server unless you connect through them. He called me the other day, long distance, asking that I figure something out and mail hím a solution. I set up a free account for myself and could use their SMTP with my mail client, Fortes Agent. That free site had good instructions for how to set up OE, but not my version. I would want to test it myself before mailing out directions. If the site's instructions are for OE6, they should work in your OE5.5, Lars. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), AH-VSOP Lars@fake.com wrote: > Thanks Steve, > > I had begun to realise that that is the case. > > ........
