Default The Find Command returns nothing

I'm using OE ver 6.

When I click on Find I never get hits. And I should be getting hits.

This problem just cropped up this morning. I've never had in all the years
I've been using OE.

Any suggestions? many thanks -- Sam

Hi Sam,

In addition to the view setting (as Vincenzo has pointed out) a damaged
Folders.dbx file or large number of search folder files in the message store
can cause the problem. If the view setting doesn't resolve the issue the
information below may help.

OLEXP: "Find Message" Dialog Box Does Not Function By Any Criteria

http://support.microsoft.com/default...58&Product=oex

This behavior can occur if the Folders.dbx file is missing, damaged, or
using the read-only attribute.

First close Outlook Express.

Rename the Folders.dbx file:

1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.

2. In the Named box, type folders.dbx. Include hidden files and
folders for Windows XP.

3. In the Look In box, click your primary hard disk (usually drive
C), and then click Find Now.

4. Right-click the Folders.dbx file, and then click Rename.

5. Type folders.old, and then click OK.

6. Start Outlook Express. This creates a new Folders.dbx file
automatically.

The Folders.dbx or Folders.old file can also be safely deleted.

See Inside OE to understand what will occur when Folders.dbx is replaced.

Open the Store Folder Alternative

1.. In Outlook Express click on Tools, Options, Maintenance tab...Store
Folder.
2.. Place the cursor at the left of the text of the path to the folder.
3.. Drag the cursor to the right until the text scrolls to the end.
4.. Right-click on the text and choose Copy.
5.. In the Start, Run box right-click Paste. Click OK to open the store
folder.

An even easier method when opening that page is to use the Tab to
highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C and close OE, then use Start/Run
and Ctrl+V. Same caveat about hidden files applies but can be easily
modified in Explorer by using Tools/Folder Options.

Many thanks. I'll give that a try. Did not realize how much I depended on
the Find command until I lost it. -- Sam

I got Find working again after deleting Folders.dbx (after doing a backup of
OE). (The side effect is that I had to redo all my rules.) Thanks to those
