Hello,
I lost the ability to spell check Outlook Express email body content -- the button is grayed out. I uninstalled several software applications I wasn't using. One, however, had a shared DLL. I opted to remove it and now regret my decision as I've lost spell-check capabilities in Outlook Express. I have self-supported this issue thus far but with no luck. The most I could find was to reinstall "CSAPI3T1.DLL" in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof" but it didn't fix the problem. Any ideas? Thank you. Mike |

If the Spell Check tab is missing in Tools | Options, then you did indeed
remove a program that provided your Spell Check. But free downloads are available. I use one myself. The spell checker in the basic Works 4 through 6 will work with OE. Older and newer versions do not. If you have Works Suite, that includes MS Word and a spell checker that does work with OE. You can also download a free spell check at one of these sites. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2952 http://www.megspace.com/computers/tinyspell/ (Checks the spelling as you type). -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Green-Beast" <GreenBeast@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:1620BAC5-9FBD-4E25-AFB8-9B89226CAB55@microsoft.com... > Hello, > > I lost the ability to spell check Outlook Express email body content -- > the > button is grayed out. > > I uninstalled several software applications I wasn't using. Outlook Express requires the spell checker from another Microsoft
product, such as Word, Office, Works, etc. If you uninstalled one of those products along with its spell checker, that would be your problem. The "CSAPI3T1.DLL" issue relates to a specific problem of using an older version of Word (e..g. Word97) on Windows XP. That one file doesn't get installed by default on XP where it is needed. But you still need the other spell check files in the Proof folder and corresponding registry entries. See: Spell Checker or Custom Dictionary Errors http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=178238 If you can't or don't want to reinstall the applications, there are some freeware and shareware spell checkers that you can use.
