Default Cannot send or Receive

Since comming back from holiday (5 weeks) I instantly did liveupdate NAV 2005.
Now without turning my personal firewall off I cannot send or recieve any
mail in OE6. I've followed a trouble shooting guide from Symantec to reset
the firewall back to default but still no luck.
This problem has no effect on Web access.

What happens when you try?
If you get error messages we need the complete error message.

Turn off email scanning in your anti-virus. It provides no added
protection.

The Other E-Mail Threat: File Corruption in Outlook Express

Email scanning slows down Sending and Receiving, sometimes enough that OE
times out. Since some of the received messages have large (often virus)
attachments, which exasperates the problem.
Some Comcast users have found it necessary to totally uninstall Norton and
switch to the free AVG with mail scanning off. Norton invented email
scanning and here's what they say:

"Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses
that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions."
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...256c7500723cf0

"...your computer is protected if Auto-Protect is enabled. Auto-Protect
scans any incoming files, including email attachments, when the files are
saved to your hard drive."
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...01100907323806

"NAV provides multiple layers of protection. Email scanning is just one of
those layers. Even if you are not running Email Scanning, your computer is
protected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments by NAV
Auto-Protect. Auto-Protect will scan any incoming files, including email
attachments, as they are saved to your hard drive. To make sure that
Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled
and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus
definitions."

So Symantec used to say this often and clearly. The newer stuff doesn't
have the statement included as it was considered an embarrassment. If you
know anyone who programs for Norton try to get them to talk about it.

Which firewall?

Zonealarm has a page where you set the program permissions under Program
Control. Go to the equivalent in your program and allow it to have access to
the web.

When I try to send / receive display box says Receiving' reported
error(0x8004210A) the operation timed out waiting for a responce from the
(POP) serverif you continue to receive this message contact your SA or ISP,

I've contacted the SA & ISP & they assure me it is a Firewall problem, I've
turned mail scanning off, no different.
The firewall concerned is NAV

How to troubleshoot error messages that you receive when try to send and
receive e-mail in Outlook and in Outlook Express
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813514

This article lists several things to check.

E-mail anti-virus scanning is the most common cause of this problem.

Does the error message show the correct ISP mail server name? Often
when disabling e-mail scanning you need to manually reset the account
settings. If the server name is listed as localhost, 127.0.0.1, or
pop3.norton.antivirus then the e-mail scanning hasn't been properly
removed.
