Default Outlook Express 6.0 mails have AM/PM in Date Headers

Hello all,

The emails sent out from Outlook Express 6.00 have Date Headers, having Time
formats in the manner below:
The Time Formats
Sat, 5 Nov 2005 08:38:40 AM -0500

There are AM/PM strings after the Time in the Date Headers. These do not
pertain to the Standard Date Formats defined by rfc 2822.

These are being seen in the following version of Outlook Express:

Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2180
Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.2180

Request inputs on this...if this is a known issue where mails from Outlook
Express have Date Headers with Time Formats having AM/PM ?
OR Does this happen with repect to some specific Date/Time settings in the
Windows Operating Server which the Outlook Express picks up for sending the
outgoing mails ?

Thanks

Hi smithas,

At the risk of speaking from ignorance, Outlook Express uses an offset from
UT to identify the time a message is created -- a message delayed being sent
will have an incorrect (sent) time. Are you sure this is not a server issue?

The message properties from my OE (same version) show 24 hour time.

Examples
Date: Tue, 22 Nov 2005 19:20:44 -0800
Date: Fri, 18 Nov 2005 05:36:56 -0800

Hi Kuay,

Thanks for your response ..even i was not able to see such a case where
AM/PM was seen in date Headers for mails being sent from Outlook Express
6.0.0.,was getting the same headers like the ones mentioned by you in the
Examples below.

But there were these mails which our customers were receving from Outlook
Express 6.0.0 to one of our developed applications which had this AM also in
the Date Header:

Here's a sample from the mail that we received, where Date Headers are

Scholastic probably won't have to worry about many returns, however.
"Phoenix" sold more than 12 million copies, and "Half-Blood Prince" has been
No. 1 on Amazon.com's sales list since the book was announced several months
ago.

Potter fans, of course, face a far darker prospect than the departure of a
single character. The series itself must end -- Rowling expects to start
working on the seventh Potter book at the end of the year.

Not sure if this is happens with Outlook for some Date/Time Zone Settings on
the Server .

The only difference that we see with the mails being sent out that is seen
in the Outlook Express that is being used by us the one received is the
version of the Outlook Express, which is as follows:

Version of Outlook 6.00 which has these AM/PM in it
------------------------------------------------------------

X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2180
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.2180

and

Version of Outlook 6.00 which does not have such AM/PM in the Date
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Headers:
---------

X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2600.0000
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2600.0000

It would be really helpful if there are any inputs on this.

Thanks again

Default Re: Outlook Express 6.0 mails have AM/PM in Date Headers

Like Tim, I've never seen OE put and AM/PM in the Date header.

On the problem PCs, if you look in their Sent Items folder at the
Message Source (Ctrl-F3), is the AM/PM there? If not, then something
happened to the Date header after leaving OE.

If the AM/PM is there, what are those people using for their Regional
Settings, including Time format

A curious thing that I notice from the sample message:

Date: Sat, 5 Nov 2005 08:38:40 AM -0500
X-OriginalArrivalTime: 05 Nov 2005 08:40:01.0000 (UTC)
FILETIME=[829C4680:01C5E1E4]

I presume the X-OriginalArrivalTime: is coming from your mail server
when the message is received. Allowing for a slight delay in sending
and differences between clocks, the "08:38:40 AM -0500" would be around
"13:38:40 (UTC)".

Default Re: Outlook Express 6.0 mails have AM/PM in Date Headers

Hi ,

The issue might be with the mail server as you have mentioned here....since
i too tested it with Outlook Express 6.00 and several combinations of
Regional Settings but could not find an AM/PM in the Date Headers.

The Regional Settings cannot be verified since these mails are from our
customer's customer so will not be able to get the info.

Thanks for all the inputs. Will check if the mails servers are the cause for
the same.

Thanks

Default Re: Outlook Express 6.0 mails have AM/PM in Date Headers

Hi ,

The issue might be with the mail servers since i too have verified the mails
sent from Outlook Express 6.0.0 with varied combinations of the Date/Time
Headers in the Regional Options, but did not find a AM/PM in the Date Header.

The info of the Regional settings cannot be found since the mails are from
our customer's customer.

Thanks for all the inputs.

Thanks.

Default Re: Outlook Express 6.0 mails have AM/PM in Date Headers

The other thing I was wondering about, did you remove some headers from
the sample messages?

I didn't see any "Received:" headers. There should be one for each mail
server that the message passes through. If these are submitted by
customers, there should be at least 2. One for their ISP's SMTP mail
server and one for your mail server.
