I know that Hotmail is a weird email with its own proprietary email format,
and that I can only access it with the Outlook Express client, but lately --- since I switched to an XP box --- I have been having some problems. My machine hangs on downloading e-mail, including my comcast SMTP account. I have around 5 different hotmail accounts all trying to get messages too. Is there a way to tell OE which email accounts to download first? You know what I mean? It seems to get stuck on the first one, which has some spam filters that maybe is choking it. Forgive me if this message does not make sense.... Mr. Curious |

You need to create a separate identity for each Hotmail account you want to
access with Outlook Express. Or forget about Outlook Express integration, unless the accounts with Hotmail are "paid" accounts as new Hotmail accounts cannot be accessed with Outlook Express unless they are paid accounts. See the info in this article: You receive an error message when you use Outlook Express to access your Hotmail account: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=878462 -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. Do you have separate identities created for each Hotmail account? If not,
that is probably the cause of the problem. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 "ng_reader" <wilgrow_co@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:M--dnaBoYcIvdRnenZ2dnUVZ_sWdnZ2d@comcast.com... > > "Jim Pickering" <jim.pickering@gmail.com> wrote in message > news:uJ9gZuG8FHA.1484@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... >> You need to create a separate identity for each Hotmail account you want >> to access with Outlook Express. No,
I do not have separate identities created for each account. I simply created a new mail account, selected HTTP type, and saved my logon and password. I'm really not sure what creating new identities entails, but if it means going to file, open identity, and then clicking "OK" for each email account, that seems worse than what I have today. My work around tends to be opening a browser window, opening and closing OE, etc. Clearly the agitating piece is that the problem is intermittent. The problem is if you are trying to check multiple Hotmail accounts when you
click the Send/Recv button. Under Tools/Options/General tab, uncheck the option to Send and Receive at Startup and disable the Check for new mail every 'xx' minutes. Then go to the Read tab and uncheck the option to Send Immediately. Now use the small arrow to the right of the Send/Recv button and you can choose which account you wish to poll for mail. If you're trying to get them all at once, that is going to cause problems. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 "ng_reader" <wilgrow_co@hotmail.com> wrote in message news L6dnbgamd40khjenZ2dnUVZ_v2dnZ2d@comcast.com. ..> No, > > I do not have separate identities created for each account. > > I simply created a new mail account, selected HTTP type, and saved my > logon and password. > > I'm really not sure what creating new identities entails, but if it means > going to file, open identity, and then clicking "OK" for each email > account, that seems worse than what I have today. > > My work around tends to be opening a browser window, opening and closing > OE, etc. > > Clearly the agitating piece is that the problem is intermittent. > > > "The kindness of a stranger is not soon forgotten" > > "Jim Pickering" <jim.pickering@gmail.com> wrote in message > news:OGdSa9H8FHA.1000@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... >> Do you have separate identities created for each Hotmail account? I have four MSN/Hotmail accts that are checked one after another in the same
identity. Always works smoothly for me. But, I do wish that I could set up OE to check my POP email account first. EGG-xactly.
Pretty much works smoothly, except if I try to pull my messages prior to machine going through complete boot-up. (Like when I first turn on) As it always cycles through the same mail accounts in the same order, obviously some way to edit that process here to for unknown to this typist.
