Is there a difference between "Catch Up" and "Mark All Read" with respect to
newsgroups? The Mark All Read has a handy keyboard shortcut (Control+Shift+A) and works almost instantly. Catch Up gives me an hourglass briefly and has to be accessed via a right-click. Just curious... Bill |

Catch Up will mark as Read all messages on the server, including ones you've
not yet downloaded. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Security, Shell/User) Bill Marriott wrote: > Is there a difference between "Catch Up" and "Mark All Read" with respect > to > newsgroups? > > The Mark All Read has a handy keyboard shortcut (Control+Shift+A) and > works > almost instantly. That's because Catch Up marks all messages remaining on the server as Read.
Takes a while to do that while Ctrl+Shift+A only marks all messages in your copy of the newsgroup that you've downloaded as Read. Much quicker. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. Thanks. Aha. So if I'm not limiting my header downloads they have more or less the
same effect, I gather. Thanks. Yes, more or less, but there's a minor fly in your ointment: If you open the
newsgroup at< e.g., 12:30PM and downloaded all new messages, read and reply for a while and then use Catch Up at 1:30PM, you won't get any messages posted to the server between 12:30 and 1:30 when you next poll the server. -- ~PA Bear Bill Marriott wrote: > Aha. Jim,
I am not sure why you didn't say, "Catch Up marks all messages on the server as Read."? Bill, If you are hiding Read messages, Control + A, then Control + Q is faster than Control+Shift+A. -- Ron Sommer "Jim Pickering" <jim.pickering@gmail.com> wrote in message news:OcKqpmU9FHA.2264@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... > That's because Catch Up marks all messages remaining on the server as > Read.
