I am trying to load the folders I set up while I was using Outlook into
Outlook Express. I had tons of folders under my inbox that contained a lot of important serial numbers and purchase information, but I can find no way to import that info for use with Outlook Express. |

Never done it myself, but in OE: File | Import | Messages | Microsoft
Outlook. Thanks Bruce,
Tried that already and I get an error message that says, "Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI Client", whatever that means. Keep checking back, Ed. Others here are more in tune with importing from

OE cannot directly read or write PST or PAB files. You have to have a
program installed on the same PC with Outlook Express that can handle PST or PAB files. This would be the Win95 Exchange Client, Windows Messaging, Outlook97/98/2000+. OE uses the MAPI functions to get the other program to handle the PST or PAB file and pass the data to it. That other program must be the default MAPI client, not OE. It uses the default profile of that program to import data from. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Ed" <Ed@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:902B0FDF-D1A2-46B8-8DAA-C496F9BEF2D9@microsoft.com... > Thanks Bruce, > > Tried that already and I get an error message that says, "Messages > cannot be > imported from the MAPI Client", whatever that means. > > "Bruce Hagen" wrote: > >> Never done it myself, but in OE: File | Import | Messages | Microsoft >> Outlook. Michael,
I realize you're saying that in order for OE to read my pst file it must have that program installed, however is that feasable with OE and WindowsXP or is what your saying simply a hypathetical "best case scenario"? I'm going to locate the program and attempt to install. Thanks for now!! "Michael Santovec" wrote: > OE cannot directly read or write PST or PAB files. OE can only import OL data if OL is also installed on the machine and using
the PST file containing the data. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Security, Shell/User) Ed wrote: > I am trying to load the folders I set up while I was using Outlook into > Outlook Express. ok, I am gonna make the brilliant assumption here that there is really no
way, short of simply installing Outlook, that I'm gonna be able to move all those personal folders over to OE. Thanks to everyone for their assistance. Here's a workaround:
If you have only the PST file, you can import it into OL on MachineB and then import the data into OE, also on MachineB. Now backup the OE/MachineB data (including Folders.dbx) to CD. Copy the data from the CD to the HDD of MachineA, remove the Read Only attribute the data will have by default, and then import the data into OE/MachineA. Well. . .here's what I'm gonna do. Since OE and only OE is on the new machine
and the pst file I want is on the old machine which only has OL, I'm probably going to find my lost copy of OL and install it on the new machine, import the pst file and uninstall OE which I don't care for. (probably could have asked them to install OL rather than OE but I assumed they were compatible). To be honest PA, and it's not your directions as it looks like you did some serious research to find all that, but it makes no sense to me at all because just your first sentence describes exactly what my problem is. I can load the pst file on the machine with OE, but I cannot load that data into OE. If I could, I'd be a happy camper as that's exactly what I want to do. So it would just be much easier to install OL on my new system and be done with it. Thanks for your assistance.
