When i join any newsgroup i normal synchronize all messages so that it
becomes easy to search. Now here's the problem..... i join lets say
windows.servers.sbs group .. in outlook express it shows me around 10000
messages but when i join the same group through google groups it shows me
more than 20000 messages from which i can search !

Is there any setting i can use to get those additional messages?
I tried another news reader and even that gives me more messages than shown
in outlook express

I've never understood what 'scynchronise' does?

The MS newsserver (news://msnews.microsoft.com) only keeps messages
available for approximately 90 days by default. Archives of Google Groups
go back to the dawn of Usenet.

old messages fall off the servers, google keeps them longer,
