I have a NNTP server runnign on windows 2000. I could successfully post
message to a newsgroup on that server. But when I tried to delete the message by clicking on <Message/Cancel Message> in Outlook 6, I get the following exception. Outlook Express could not post your message. Subject 'test msg 2', Account: 'icinetdev2k', Server: 'icinetdev2k', Protocol: NNTP, Server Response: '441 (651) Article Rejected -- Control.* newsgroup is missing', Port: 119, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 441, Error Number: 0x800CCCA9 Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

It's just telling you, in a roundabout fashion, that there is no Control
newsgroup setup on the server to handle cancellations, so your request for cancellation was rejected. You can contact the hosting news server if you wish to determine if they have an alternate method of cancelling posts but I doubt if you'll get an answer. It's not an Outlook Express problem since Outlook Express is just reporting the news it received from your server. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. Thanks Jim. The news server is being hosted on another computer in my same
office. I have access to that server. Since I am new to running newsgroup on IIS, can you guide me as to how I can configure the newsgroup to handle cancellation. Thanks. I noticed that under NNTP Virtual Server Properties/Settings <Allow control
messages> has been enabled . I guess this is the one for handling cancellations. If so then why am I not able to cancel the message posted by me. p.s. Please let me know if I should take this up in any other newsgroup. Thanks. To cancel from OE you must use the same account for the Cancel message that you used for the original, including the same language encoding. If you changed either one your cancel will be rejected. If that does not apply, you should try posting to an IIS group for better help. -- Tom Koch, MVP for IE/Outlook Express http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com or http://www.insideoe.com Awareness is free. |

I finally got it to work. I just restarted the NNTP server and it worked like
a charm. I could cancel messages from the server now. "Peter" wrote: > I have a NNTP server runnign on windows 2000. I could successfully post > message to a newsgroup on that server.
