I have a large collection of old emails, organized into a nested set of
folders on Outlook Express 6. I want to transfer them to another person's computer's Outlook program. I see where OE has a feature which does the transfer from OE to Outlook, but only on the same computer. Is there a way I can create an export file, then email or phsically move it to the other machine, and restore it into Outlook? -- PT |

You may copy the contents of the "Store Folder" (see the Maintenance tab in
Options) to the other computer, then import the messages into Outlook. dOinK "PT" <xyz@xyz.com> wrote in message news:ui$M8IE$FHA.2392@TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl... >I have a large collection of old emails, organized into a nested set of > folders on Outlook Express 6. Two questions:
1. To add to the complication, I only wish to export certain folders in my store. Suppose I have a tree like this: main Sub1 Sub2 SubSub1 SubSub2 Sub3 I note in my store file there's a dbx for wach oa the above items (main, sub's and subsub's. Would I then copy the whole store to a separate folder, then delete all but the desired items as above. Will that then restore into outlook with the same structure? 2. When I import to Outlook, the Outlook Import feature also seems to assume I'm getting my messages from the same computer. How would i tell Outlook what to import, and where to find the data? -- PT "dOinK" <tvanvik@on_code_line.no> wrote in message news:dnaajd$r2u$1@bat-news01.banetele.basefarm.net... Hi PT,
I can't say how the folder will ultimately look in Outlook, but here's some information to get you started. Outlook will only import from Outlook Express, not from a backup of the DBX files. The messages must first be imported into OE. The entire message store could be copied and used to import only selected folders into OE, instead of "All" folders. DBX files for selected folders *and* the file Folders.dbx (which is required for the import process) could be copied to a folder on the second machine and the selected folders imported into OE. Once the messages are in OE they can be copied by the import/export process to Outlook. Selected folders can be chosen when exporting to Outlook from OE. Both must be on the same PC. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "PT" <xyz@xyz.com> wrote in message news:eRI6VYE$FHA.3392@TK2MSFTNGP14.phx.gbl... Two questions: 1. If you have OL on your machine, import the OE data into OL, backup the PST
file and import it into OL on the other machine. If you don't have OL on your machine, backup (not export!) the OE data, import it into OE on the other machine and then import it into OL from there. As Tim points out, you cannot import the OE backup directly into OL. I have OL on my machine. But I have one further question:
The new machine's OL is being used actively by its user, and thus has a substantial PST file. Can OL import additional material from my exported PST without overwriting and destroying the existing data? -- PT "PA Bear" <PABearMVP@gmail.com> wrote in message news:uh5tvtH$FHA.2264@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... You would have to ask about that potential problem in an Outlook newsgroup,
letting them know what version of Outlook you have installed since different versions of it may act in a different fashion. news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...ok.Calendaring news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof....configuration news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...tlook.Contacts news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...ic.outlook.Fax news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...utlook.General news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...k.installation news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...utlook.interop news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...tlook.printing news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...Program_AddIns news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof....program_forms news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...ok.Program_VBA news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...ThirdPartyUtil -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped.
