OE6 is not downloading Microsoft Word attachments. I unchecked the box,
that is not the issue. The attachement is not greyed out, it is simply not shown at all. It is there when I go directly into my ISP webmail account, OE6 is simply not downloading the attachment. How can I fix this problem? |

The box onthe options>security tab that blocks attachements from
opening. That is not the problem. The attachments are completely gone in OE, but are present on my ISP webmail. |

It is not the image one either. I have already checked everything
obvious. Yes, I have a lot of messages in my inbox. |

Turn off e-mail scanning for starters. Then check your settings in Tools |
Accounts | Mail | Properties | Servers. It would appear from your message header that your Comcast setting was changed to 127.0.0.1 by your e-mail scanning. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "griffelh" <griffelh@comcast.net> wrote in message news:1134174436.484568.235120@g43g2000cwa.googlegr oups.com... > OE6 is not downloading Microsoft Word attachments. My settings in settings in Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties |
Servers are fine. What does my email scanning have to do with this? It is not set to bloack attachments. I do not understand what you are saying about my Comcast setting being changed. |

It was probably because you are posting through Google that the 127.0.0.1
showed in your header. Whether it's a cure, or not, e-mail scanning is not necessary and can cause many problems. We always recommend turning it off. Are you using XP/SP2? The Word attachments may have become blocked. You may have to unblock the attachment with the Attachment Manager. See this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=883260 You say you have a lot of mail in the Inbox. Another possible reason. Move all the mail out of it and heed this warning: Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupted. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File>Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File>Folder>Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. In Tools>Options>Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "griffelh" <griffelh@comcast.net> wrote in message news:1134176679.894562.42720@g43g2000cwa.googlegro ups.com... > My settings in settings in Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | > Servers are fine. Well, the attachment manager issue is not it, as the attachment is not
even visible to me, it is as if it has been washed off of the message. This is a particularly large attachment (4MB). Smaller ones seem to come thru ok. I will take your advice regarding archiving. I still cannot see this attachment, though. I have downloaded it directly from my webmail, but the issue is still frustrating. |

If messages are sent using the Exchange family of mail programs
(includes Windows Messaging or Outlook97/98/2000+) and the option to use Rich Text Format is selected, it puts the RTF message (and any attached files) in an attachment called WINMAIL.DAT (application/ms-tnef). But this attachment is useless to most other mail programs. In some mail programs (e.g. Outlook Express), the attachment won't even be visible. The Exchange user can turn off the RTF option for messages to selected recipients. Note that if sending via an Exchange server, the Exchange server administrator may be overriding the mail client settings. In this case, the administrator will need to make changes on the server. In some cases, the Exchange server actually removes the attachments to some recipients. For additional information, see the MS-TNEF WINMAIL.DAT Attachments section of Decoding Internet Attachments - A Tutorial http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_san...de.htm#ms-tnef -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "griffelh" <griffelh@comcast.net> wrote in message news:1134174436.484568.235120@g43g2000cwa.googlegr oups.com... > OE6 is not downloading Microsoft Word attachments.
