Default Homepage setting corrupt

No matter what I do I cannot set the homepage to other than microsoft
com.
I did evertyhing advised in Microsoft's web documents.IE-Tools-internet
options :
when I set the current page as homepage I can see it written in the
column.
But when exiting tools it is blank but homepage defaults to
microsoft.com.

Tried to reinstall IE and altered the necessary insall directory
setting.
But when clicking I get" you have already a newer version"

Do you have any program installed that restores the start page against
change such as a anti-spyware program?

That's because AdAware doesn't do that. Try Spywareguard.

If you have a newer version of Ad-Aware it has an option to protect the Home
Page. Turn that option off.
