Hi
When I try to open Outlook Express I get the error box: MSiIMN.exe generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. Restarting only has the same message. Using Windows 2000 SP4 David Hanmer |

Hi David,
This error can be caused by a damaged DBX file, particularly one for a default OE folder. These files can be renamed (in turn) to identify a file that is damaged. Alternatively, all the message store files could be moved to a backup folder on the desktop, leaving an empty message store folder. New default files will be created when OE starts. An attempt to import the files from the backup folder could be done or use of a 3rd party message recovery program on the backup files done. The error can also be caused by a damaged OE Identity or if the DBX files are read-only. A backup of the message store files before proceeding is a good idea in any case. This behavior can occur if the client mail store contains a damaged .dbx file. The damaged file is probably Outbox.dbx, Inbox.dbx, or Sent Items.dbx. To resolve this behavior, remove the damaged .dbx file: 1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer. 2. In Windows Explorer, on the Tools menu, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders. 3. You may need to include hidden files and folders (Windows 2000 and XP). 4. Type Outbox.dbx in the Named box, and then click Find Now. 5. Right-click the file name, and then click Rename. 6. Rename the file to Outbox.old. Note that deleting a .dbx file also deletes any e-mail messages or other data in the folder. The Store folder can be found in Tools, Options, Maintenance tab.Store Folder. The text for the path can be copied using a right-click and then entered in the Start, Run box. OK to open the Store folder. Each identity has its own Store folder. Disregard this method if Outlook Express cannot be opened. Restart Outlook Express For possible Identity damage see: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;258034 -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "David Hanmer" <dwh@mh-s.co.uk> wrote in message news ps1mp8lwe3jys1f@user-5912.l5.c5.dsl.pol.co.uk...Hi When I try to open Outlook Express I get the error box: MSiIMN.exe generated errors and will be closed by Windows. Hi Tim
I deleted all the dbx files (Ihave backups) and the error still appeared. I then deleted the registry key and the same message again. Any more ideas - thanks for your assistance. Hi David,
Other possibilities include a conflict with a 3rd-party program (likely one that filters messages) or a corrupted install of Outlook Express caused by one or more upgrades. It is possible for an upgrade to leave an old file in place that conflicts with a newer version. Others may have more ideas on the issue before considering a repair/reinstall of OE.
