I don't know what I am doing wrong,. I am able to export the OE message
rules from Win 98 load them into notepad and change the {GUID}and then save the file. However when I double click on the file to import into OE in Win XP it tells me that the import was successful. I then opened Registry Editor and I notice that it puts the 38 folders numbered from 000 to 038 below the Mail folder in the left pane. I then went into OE and checked if the message rules were there and none can be found. I then created a message rule directly in OE in XP and then went to the registry and I see that it created a string in the right pane named Order and puts the value of 000 in that string. Going back to my old version of OE in Win 98 and looking in the registry for that (GUID) I see that it has a string in the right pane named Order and has value there from 000 to 038. How can I get my import into that Order string in OE in XP? I believe that is what I need to happen for the import to work. I hope that all of this makes sense. After editing the reg file in Notepad or Wordpad, are you certain you are
using the Menu choice, File/Save As and ensuring that it is saved as a REG file? The export of rules is a fairly simple process and only requires the GUID to be changed to the one in use on the machine you wish to import it info. It will import all rules from one identity to another identity and the numbering of those rules will remain the same as they were on the previous machine. It sounds like you did not export the entire key for Mail and News when you did you export. Might check again. Also make sure you are replacing the GUID in every instance where it appears in the exported rule. In Notepad use Edit/Replace and insert the GUID to replace and the new one, then click the "Replace All" button. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. If you imported the whole things all at once after editing, you should see the Order value as it was in 9x. Look to see that the Data header is fully visible. If not, move the mouse to the right edge of the Data header till you see the mouse cursor change, holder the button down and move it to the right to expand it to make it more visible. Next try this, double click on the Order value and it will open for editing. Do the values appear there? |

Thanks for the quick response. After I posted this message I decided to try
one more thing, "after having tried to move these rules for most of the day". What I did this time was go to Win 98 and open the registry and double click on the mail folder and then click on the Order key in the right panel. I then exported the rule again and went through the process again of changing the {GUID} and saving the notepad file. After I closed notepad I double clicked on the file and this time it added all of the rules in OE on my Win XP OS. I just stopped one step short when I was trying before.
