My hard disk is partitioned into a C-drive and a D-drive. Unfortunately, the partitioning created a "dynamically partitioned disk" which several people have told me cannot be re-partitioned. My email storage, by default, is on the C-drive, and I'm running out of space there; I have plenty of space on the D-drive. Is there any problem with changing the "message store" location from the C-drive to the D-drive? Will making that change (OE > Tools > Options > Maintenance > change message store) only work for newly received/sent email, or will it automatically move my large collection of old email to the new location on the D-drive? I am using Windows 2000/pro. Any assistance appreciated. (To email me directly change dubya to w) Thanks. -- ---------- CWLee "I appreciate those who walk out from the edges with torches or even in the dark with their hands out in front of them. CWLee,
Try this: 1. Create Folder on D:\ drive and name it, such as "OE Messages" (w/o quotes): D:\OE Messages If you have multiple identity, you will need to create an individual folder for each identity. 2. Open OE, at this time you may want to do some housekeeping and delete and messages that you no longer want, and clear the Deleted Items folder. 3. In OE> FILE> Select Work offline. 4. In OE> FILE> Folders> Compact All Folders> Don't touch anything, let the compaction process complete. 5. In OE> TOOLS> Options> Maintenance tab> Store folder> Write down the location of the current folder. If you have multiple Identities if Identity, will have a different folder location. 6. In OE> TOOLS> Options> Maintenance tab> Store folder> Change button> Browse to the folder that you created for message files such as "D:\OE Messages"> OK/Apply. 7. Close OE> I would also reboot the PC myself, but you may not have to> Wait a few moments> Restart OE> go back to Step#5 and see if the folder location has changed. And check if you get mail and news messages. 8. Unless you need to do it immediately, I would wait a week or so, before deleting the "OLD" message store folder and its contents. If you really need the space. Just delete the Newsgroup.name.DBX files. Make sure you don't delete the Folders.DBX file. For XP users, you will need to change your folder options, to view Hidden files. -- Add MS to your News Reader: news://msnews.microsoft.com Rich/rerat (RRR News) <message rule> <<Previous Text Snipped to Save Bandwidth When Appropriate>> "CWLee" <cdubyalee@post.harvard.edu> wrote in message news:Ov7CBE1$FHA.216@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... I don't know what my "swap file" is, its formal title, its location, or how to move it. I'm very willing to learn, but very hesitant to explore on my own without detailed instructions from an expert. So, tell me how to move it and I'll give it a try.
