Any attachment from a particular sender is never received by OE6. The
rest of my co-workers receive attachments from this sender regardless of what e-mail client they use -- including OE. I do not have any filters set up whatsoever. The setting in Security Tab warning of attachments is NOT enabled. The sender is Human Resources so I need what they send. |

The sender is using Microsoft Exchange Server, and most likely Outlook.
If messages are sent using the Exchange family of mail programs (includes Windows Messaging or Outlook97/98/2000+) and the option to use Rich Text Format is selected, it puts the RTF message (and any attached files) in an attachment called WINMAIL.DAT (application/ms-tnef). But this attachment is useless to most other mail programs. In some mail programs (e.g. Outlook Express), the attachment won't even be visible. The Exchange user can turn off the RTF option for messages to selected recipients. Note that if sending via an Exchange server, the Exchange server administrator may be overriding the mail client settings. In this case, the administrator will need to make changes on the server. In some cases, the Exchange server actually removes the attachments to some recipients. Looking at the Message Source (Ctrl-F3), you'll be able to tell if the attachment is there at all. Below the message headers is a bunch of gobbledy-gook that is obviously the binary attachment. The big question is why do my co-workers receive the attachment and I do not? Even those who use OE are recipients and they can get it. I have to ask them to forward it to me so I can see the attachment. -- "I do not belong to any organised political party: I'm a democrat." ~ Will Rogers |

If the mail was sent from Outlook using Outlook's RTF format then Outlook Express will never find the attachment. Outlook Express does not understand Outlook's RTF format. Ask the Outlook user to please use Plain Text, especially when sending attachments. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE Please respond in Newsgroup only. Frank, Why do the other OE users receive these attachments? I seem to be the only one having a problem. I'm afraid I don't know what's wrong. The sender may be sending messages to those other users in plain text. With Outlook, the sending format is configurable on an address-by-address basis, and can be overridden when the message is composed. -- Gary L. Smith Columbus, Ohio |

If it says, application/ms-tnef as the content type, that is your
problem. The sender in his address book can specify that all messages to you use Plain Text rather than RTF. That will avoid the problem in the future. With some 3rd party utilities, you can access the problem attachment.
