Default Outgoing mail

After changing from dialup to ADSL Broadband, I cannot get my outgoing email
to send. Message as shown below.
Can anyone suggest a solution?

cheers

Gerald Burns

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by
the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'Gerald.Burns@telecom.co.nz'.
Subject 'Re: test', Account: 'pop3', Server: 'smtp.paradise.net.nz',
Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554 <Gerald.Burns@telecom.co.nz>:
Recipient address rejected: Relay access denied', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

It looks like you changed ISPs and are trying to still use the SMTP server
from the old ISP. Very few ISPs will allow you to use a different ISPs SMTP
server or to use theirs if you are not connected through them. This is a
normal part of their efforts to fight spam. Always use the SMTP (outgoing)
server of the ISP you are connected to. The reason you can send to yourself
is that telecom.co.nz will apparently let you use their SMTP server from a
different ISP's connection if the recipients are all within telecom.co.nz.

Tools, Accounts, Mail, highlight your account, Properties, Servers tab, does
your ISP require "My server requires authentication" to be checked?

I agree with Frank. I was in a similar situation some time ago when I
switched my ISP... whenever I logged on through the old one, I was
able to send email through their SMTP server but not otherwise. But I
could still use their servers for incoming email...

So what I do now is that I use a different SMTP server (ISP
independent - www.mailshack.com) to send out emails and receive the
replies through the old one (using the Reply-To field). Its a bit of
hassle for the receipents at times when my messages get caught in
their filters and I also have to check out the mailshack account from
time to time to make sure messages are not ending up their... but
otherwise it works well.

....do let us know how you go around fixing this problem...

cheers

Is paradise.net.nz YOUR provider? Or are you trying to get unauthorized
access to their mail server? Your IP address from your post says you are on
xtra.co.nz. So is xtra and paradise the same entity? Do they share IP
addresses? Is paradise considered to be an on-domain with xtra? Since you
didn't authenticate to their server (to prove you have permission to use
their resources) and since you are coming from a different domain, they
don't know who you are and will reject connection attempts from spammers,
hackers, or anyone that doesn't have permission to use their resources.

Check your e-mail account configuration to be sure that you are
authenticating to the SMTP server to prove you have permission to use it.
If you are ON the same network as the mail server that you want to use, you
probably don't have to authenticate (but that depends on the e-mail
provider's requirements). If you are OFF their network and trying to use
their resources, you'll have to authenticate.

Long answer: You post here using jetstream.xtra.co.nz as your ISP so we'll
assume it's the ADSL and telecom.co.nz was the dial-up. To send using an
email account with the latter you'll need to be connected to the latter as
ISP.

Short answer: Start using your new name@jetstream.xtra.co.nz for emailing.
