Running WindowsXP - SP2 with a LAN connection to the Web via my DSL line. I
do not have a dial up connection set up. About every other day the first time I run OE6 and visit any Newsgroup, I get an "Unknown Error Has Occurred" message. Clicking Details reveals the following: Configuration: Protocol: NNTP Port: 0 Secure(SSL): 0 Code: 80004005 This usually happens just after surfing the Web with Firefox 1.5 but not all the time. OE6 reads my mail fine but when I go to News it fails. Closing and reopening OE6 clears up the problem. I have Googled the problem and found KB article 224535. Tools/Account/News/Properties/Connection shows just two entries, Local Area Network and Widomaker DSL. No dial up connection so Method 2 didn't seem appropriate. Always Connect Using is set to the LAN. I set it to the DSL connection but the problem occurred again this morning. Can anyone help me solve this problem? Thank you very much. |

On the Advanced tab for the account make sure that the port is set to 119. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE Please respond in Newsgroup only.
