I've added a Gmail account to OE. It worked. I restarted my computer. The
Gmail account no longer worked because: the incoming (POP3) server was changed to 127.0.0.1 and the incoming port was changed to 110. Changing these back to pop.gmail.com and 995 allows the Gmail account to work again. However, every time I restart my computer, those two settings are changed back again to 127... and 110. That's every time - it's consistent. Only when I restart my computer - not when OE is restarted. I've deleted and recreated the account and the situation remains the same - those two settings get changed. No other email account is affected by this. Help? Thanks. |

Turn off e-mail scanning. This is usually what changes the settings. Your
A/V will still protect you. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "H Stevens" <HStevens@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:49FB690B-C7AE-416F-85E8-4F11E8741F9F@microsoft.com... > I've added a Gmail account to OE. It was the fault of McAfee Spamkiller - it doesn't know how to deal with
POP3/SSL accounts and it shouldn't have been protecting the Gmail account. I've removed and this problem is done with. ] Thanks. "Bruce Hagen" wrote: > Turn off e-mail scanning. Do you have a better anti virus program that you could recommend?

I'd like to recommend AVG Free:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 or: http://www.grisoft.com/doc/40/lng/ww When prompted, choose Custom Installation and *uncheck* e-mail scanning when you see the option. Norton (and McAfee) products are not Outlook Express friendly, and I don't know of any OE-MVP that would recommend using them. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Longmere" <Longmere@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:EB5480C6-9DBD-4C6A-9740-4D7DF58478FF@microsoft.com... > Do you have a better anti virus program that you could recommend? > > "Vanguard" wrote: > >> "H Stevens" <HStevens@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:49FB690B-C7AE-416F-85E8-4F11E8741F9F@microsoft.com... >> > I've added a Gmail account to OE. I have the exact same problem with my email accounts every time that I shut
down the computer. I get the 127.0.0.1 in the incoming mail box. I turned off McAffee but I still have the same problem. This only happens on my laptop. I have McAffee on both computers. Any suggestions? "Bruce Hagen" wrote: > Turn off e-mail scanning. This is usually what changes the settings. An Anti-Spam programs? If it isn't e-mail scanning, that's the second
choice. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Longmere" <Longmere@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:5AFBA0D1-2F55-4C09-B07D-64482FE680BD@microsoft.com... >I have the exact same problem with my email accounts every time that I shut > down the computer. Thanks. I tried to download the grisoft and I got an error that there was a
corrupted file. I'll keep trying. Try the other link. Turn off your current A/V and choose Save to a folder of
your choice and Install from there. Remember to choose Custom and uncheck e-mail scanning when you see the prompt. Just to give you a little confidence, many of us here use AVG in this mode and have never seen any problems. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Longmere" <Longmere@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:B6325C71-C919-4D24-AB20-E4921EA60BFF@microsoft.com... > Thanks.
