I'm trying to copy and paste text and graphics from a Word document. In the Word document, the text is spaced with tabs and the space bar to line up with certain features in the graphics. The graphics are all created with the Word Drawing Toolbar tools, and are primarily lines and arrows. The result is supposed to be a time line, with the numbers representing cash flow at each time period.

I tried to post an image of what I mean but the message got filtered out by the server. When I copy and paste directly from the Word document file to Outlook Express, all of the numbers on the timeline get shifted out of position.

I'd prefer to be able to copy and paste directly from Word and retain the formatting. My emails are set up to use Rich Text Format.

Word and Outllok Express each use a different HTML editor so results from
copy/paste will most likely "always" be a disappointment.

I tried this, but it doesn't work quite correctly. I'm able to send the document to a mail recipient as you describe, and in the "compose mail" window it looks fine. Once the mail is sent, though, the formatting is still messed up in both the inbox and outbox versions.

An additional complication: I'm teaching an online college class that uses a newsgroup setup similar to Usenet. I can't figure out how to get the message to the newsgroup server instead of a regular email address.

One trick that does work: I created a PDF file from the word document. Then I copied the section of interest to a blank Word document as an image. Then I copied the image from the Word document to the OE message, and it seems to work fine. Copying the section directly from the PDF file to OE does not work - the "paste" option is not available.

Easiest way to handle it might be to save the Word doc as a mht file, then
attach the mht file to your correspondence. Should work as it does here.
Just click on the pull down tab under File type when saving the document in
Word and change it to MHT.

I'm not familiar with MHT files. When I try to "save as" that is not an option. None of the options look close - might it also be called something else? I have Word 2003 as part of Office 2003.

Unfortunately, not in every version of Word 2003. When I call up the "save as" window, my list of file types does not have any of the file extensions you show in your .GIF file. It just shows the names of the file types.

But now I know which type you mean, and I will try it out. Thanks!

Well, it should work as well for you, but I suspect the problem may be that
you have extensions hidden under Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab.
