I can't open pdf or AutoCAD dxf attachments from within OE. When I click on
the attachment I get the message "Access to the specified device, path, or file is denied". If I save the file I can open it without problems by clicking on it in Windows Explorer. I can open Word, Excel, and jpg attachments from within OE without problems. Windows 2000. I have administrative privileges. Thanks, Don Culp |

Do the following with great care and undo it after reading the attachment.
In OE go to Tools | Options | Security and uncheck "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus". Go to a different message and come back. Frank --
This option is already unchecked (I have antivirus installed). I can save the files without problems, I just can't open them from within OE. If it makes any difference, I'm using Windows 2000 SP3 rather than XP. Notes: 1. AutoCAD dxf files (which don't open from OE) are text files. AutoCAD dwg files (binary) also won't open from OE. 2. Even when I am the sender I can't open the offending attachments from within OE. I suspect that you at least will also have to change Security from the Restricted zone to the Internet zone. However, the simplest way to deal with attachments which are blocked is to create a dummy forwarding E-mail (e.g. press Ctrl-f) and then doubleclick on that attachment. Good luck Robert Aldwinckle --- |

Take a look at the Windows Files Associations for the problem file
types. When you Open an attachment from within OE, it uses the OPEN action in the file associations. When you double click a file in the Windows Explorer, it uses the Default action, which is not necessarily the OPEN action (it could be some thing such as READ, EDIT, DISPLAY, etc.). I suspect that OPEN action is not the default and that there is something wrong with the association. If you make the OPEN action like the default one, you should be to open them from within OE. See the Identifying Attachment File Types and Setting File Associations section of Decoding Internet Attachments - A Tutorial http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_san...e.htm#identify -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Don Culp" <dculp@krell-engineering.com> wrote in message news:uJdhBu1BGHA.2036@TK2MSFTNGP14.phx.gbl... >I can't open pdf or AutoCAD dxf attachments from within OE.
