I downloaded this file and saved it to my desktop, then installed it.
(Download and install with antivirus disabled). Same story: I install the update, OE won’t open, I uninstall it, OE opens. I think at this point I will go unpatched. I have uninstalled Windows Update Notifier, so that won’t bother me. Thanks anyway for your suggestions. -- Robert H. Move all DBX files from your identity's store to another Windows folder.
Follow Steps 2 thru 6. OE should open now. Import the DBX files you moved above into OE. Installing 837009 *should* not cause any problems now. If it does, post back. Well, you've got me stumped.
The only thing else I can suggest would be to... => (1) backup your identity's store and (2) overinstall IE and OE: First, close *everything* via CTRL+ALT+DEL except Windows Explorer (includes your AV program, Scheduled Tasks, Screensaver, and going offline). Start>Run>IE6Setup.exe. Select Minimal - Custom; Select all the parts you use, including OE (but none you didn't originally download) and overinstall. Should take about 2 minutes. Reboot the computer. Now, with AV and all other running processes still closed, check in at Windows Update for additional updates and patches you may need. => (1) backup your store, (2) uninstall IE and OE6 via Add/Remove Programs, (3) reinstall Win98 (http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/html/w98_restore.html), then (4) (reinstall) IE/OE 6 SP1, reboot and (5) install any other updates. -- ~PA Bear Robert H. wrote: > I followed the instructions to the letter.
