Default Outgoing Messages are sent and then go into Outbox, which continue

HELP! OE6 has suddenly developed a problem. When I send a message it is
sent out and then retained in the outbox. Each time OE "send and receives"
the message is sent again and retained in outbox. If I leave the computer
before deleting it it is resent every 5 minutes as i have that set for.

I have reinstalled it to have it function properly for a short time and then
revert. I have setup a new identiy, transferred all of the folders with
success for a short period and then reverts. It starts with files with
attachments and then spreads to all messages. I should also note that I have
to delete the file in the outbox and it therefore does not show up in my
"sent" folder, so I have no history. If I attempt to move it to the sent
folder it rejects it.
There is a popup declaring an error but there is no error message! I reset
all of the .dll files as well. Also attempted to recover with Norton's "Go
Back" and Microsoft's "System Restore", which cannot reset and Go Back was
able to give normal function but for a short time. I'm flushtered!
Thanks

Your post is a real diatribe. Apologies if you did ALL of this.

Do this for the Outbox.dbx & Sent Items, (after you move any mail you wish
to save).

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the
location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write
the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WindowsXP, 2K & 3K, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked
as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden
Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Outbox.dbx &
Sent Items.dbx} and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when
you open OE.

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your
mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and
leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.

If still no joy, you may have a damaged identity. File | Identity | Add New
Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your
messages from the old identity and delete it.

Are you autoscanning the email for viruses?
Turn it off.

Bruce, this was good! So far, so good anyway. I have been compacting the
files and I looked for the outbox.dbx file in search but it didn't reveal the
location. This was great!

This is a good sign so far. If you need to find the dbx files, don't worry
about a search, just read this closer. It explains about hidden files.

If need be, delete the dbx files for the Outbox & Sent Items, after moving
mail you want to save.

Hopefully, the problem has already been solved.

Also, when searching in XP, even if showing hidden files is enabled, you
have to select the Advanced Search and then the option to include hidden
files.
