I am totally flummoxed - so if you respond to this, pleae be very basic.
I use Windows98, and Norton virus/internet protection. Attachments sent to me (from various people) open as wordpad regardless of whether I save them or open directly. If I open the same attachment from an internet mail service, they open correctly (ie not in wordpad). I believe I am up-to-date in all downloads etc. ALSO - If I must uninstall and reinstall IE, to fix this problem, I need to know whether the messages I currently have in my inbox and files will disappear. I do not want that to happen. tia |

thanks for showing me how to change the application, but I don't know what to
change them to (how do I make the default "how they sent it to me originally"? Does that make sense? the attachments are listed in my docs as .eml "PA Bear" wrote: > Save the attachment to your hard-drive > Shift+Right-click on the save file > > Open with > Choose application you want to be the default and also check > the "Always open with..." box. > -- > ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) > MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org > > stumped and perplexed wrote: > > I am totally flummoxed - so if you respond to this, pleae be very basic. > > I use Windows98, and Norton virus/internet protection. > > > > Attachments sent to me (from various people) open as wordpad regardless of > > whether I save them or open directly. Ah...!
Choose 'Outlook Express' (msimn.exe) for EML and EMAIL attachments, S&P. (Then ask all your AOL friends to stop sending multiple Forwards, too. <wink>) -- ~PA Bear stumped and perplexed wrote: > thanks for showing me how to change the application, but I don't know > what to change them to (how do I make the default "how they sent it to me > originally"?
