Hello again,
SIZE CONFUSION Sorry for the size confusion. It is indeed a huge database, which is split into 317 *.dbx files in the Outlook Express database folder. All togheter make those 3.96 GB WHAT I'VE FOUND Well, until now I've followed all your directions and found this: 1. Inbox folder contains 208 sub-folders, with 2004 messages, 151 still unread. 2. Sent Items folder contains 3 sub-folders, with 3856 messges on them. 3. Deleted Items has no messages or sub-folders. 4. There are four folders (Personal, In Process, Allegro+CD and Registrations) In Process = 5 sub-folders, 40 messages Personal = 73 sub-folders, 3402 messages Allegro+CD = 20 messages Registrations = 21 sub-folders, 623 messages UNTIL NOW 1. I've disabled the AV protection - Installed AV was Norton Internet Security 2004 with Norton Anti-Spam 2. SP-2 for Windows XP was installed yesterday, after I received the computer. This probably means that Background Compactation was active and working before, and possibly corrupting the database. 3. I've found 79 *.dbx files which names ends with a (1) like "others(1).dbx" or other number. I understand for what I've read that those files are created when the original file gets corrupted. So there are the new (1) files and the old files there. 4. I've deleted and re-created all the folder files. Now the mail messages are being received correctly. It was obviously some corrution there. Well can anyone give some extra advice? How can I make this and previous posts sent to me by mail ? It could be useful and convincing for my client to read them also. I'll be waiting, in the mean time, if every one of you, fine people don't hear a word from me tomorrow, Have a Happy New Year 2006 ! Sincerely, -- Edwin A. Gonzalez F. Spectrum Computer, Co. In actuality, they're in no way related to Inbox.dbx => Compact all OE folders on a regular basis. > 2. Sent Items folder contains 3 sub-folders, with 3856 messges on them. Big mistake! Don't use Sent Items for archiving: Create other Local folders for this purpose and move the message to them, keeping Sent Items as empty as possible. > 3. I've found 79 *.dbx files which names ends with a (1) like > "others(1).dbx" or other number. The DBX files without a number are the ones currently in use. The ones appended by a number are the old, corrupt/damaged ones. > Well can anyone give some extra advice? As posted earlier: - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm. - Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only). - Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection. Your client should consider: - archiving to another OE identity or to a backup medium (if instant access to archive messages isn't needed) - backing up his/her current store on a regular basis (see http://groups.google.com/group/micro...af2fa0a663b9eb) Also see: Information about the maximum file size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=903095 (The author of the article has his head in a fog: Many users see degradation when the size of their entire store (not just a given DBX file) approaches 1GB. > How can I make this and previous posts sent to me by mail ? > It could be useful and convincing for my client to read them also. One would think that the loss of messages (s)he experienced would be enough to convince him/her of the error of his/her ways. I would backup everything first and then go to File | Identities and set up
a new Identity. Then import the messages from the older Identity as needed. Then backup the new Identity. see also www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx steve "Edwin Gonzalez" <EdwinGonzalez@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:9BDE06E4-0DB2-4B63-8B68-ABA14DB0D2E6@microsoft.com... > Hello again, > > SIZE CONFUSION > > Sorry for the size confusion.
