Don't store messages in the Inbox. It is the folder most apt to be corrupted. As soon as you read them move them to user created folders. Then compact the Inbox regularly. Go to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder and write down where OE is storing its data. Close OE. Go there with Windows Explorer and move (not copy) Inbox.dbx to an empty Windows folder. With Win2K, WinXP and Win2K3 it will be a hidden file. You can use either of these tools to extract the messages from the old DBX file: DBXtract ($5): http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/ although this tool is faster and better: DBXpress: ($25) http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx Do NOT extract to the desktop! With a large file this can take a long time, so let it keep running. The messages can be dragged from a Windows folder back into an OE folder in OE's Folder List. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE Please respond in Newsgroup. Hi RogerDodge,
There is some difficulty reading your message, but ... If you're not seeing any new mail except the one that is downloaded again there could be a message that Outlook Express cannot download. This prevents the download process from completing. Messages that have been delivered to OE are not deleted from the server. If you have access to your e-mail from a Web page such a message can be cleared there. It is likely to be the first message in the queue. Here are tips from two other MVP's... There may be a "stuck" message in your ISP's Inbox for your mail. You can either use a Web interface (if your ISP provides one) to read and delete your mail in your ISP's Inbox, or you can telnet to the mail server from your computer and read and then delete message which appears to be stuck. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Try using Telnet to remotely empty your mailbox. Go to start/run and type the following: telnet {pop3 server name} 110 - hit enter, don't type the brackets. user {your username} - hit enter pass {your password} - hit enter There are various commands available: list (will return all messages) retr (whatever number will retrieve that message) dele (+ number will delete that number message) -- Jim Pickering, MVP-Outlook Express More Information cf. http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_san...pop3telnet.htm -- ~PA Bear MVP, etc. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "rogerdodge" <rogerdodge@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:24EAC5BC-0A57-4C52-9A50-63E99D1B58B7@microsoft.com...
