What does this mean exactly?
Your POP3 server has not responded in 60seconds. Would you like to wait another 60 seconds for the server to respond? Problem: I can not send or recieve email at this time. Outlook Express 6 Help appreciated. Thanks, Marsha |

I am sorry about the double post. When I tried to send the question thru my
news server ....well it looked like it was just going to hang there so I posted thru this site. When I went back to check again...the post had been sent. Turning off email from my virus scanner had no effect. That is what the pop up box said "Your POP3 server has not responded in 60 seconds. Would you like to wait another 60 seconds for the server to respond?" This is the account for the mail server. Any other suggestions appreciated. Have you verified with vzinet.com that those settings are correct?

It was working yesterday when I checked my email, etc. Tonight it isn't
working. I've had the same account for several years. Could it be a corrupted idenity or something like that? Seems like I had a problem like this once before, but I don't remember how I corrected the problem. Double check that e-mail scanning remained turned off and still is.
Are you using Broadband? Disconnect the power to the Modem for about 15 seconds. plug it back in and restart the computer. Try now. A small possibility, but easy enough to eliminate, is a damaged Outbox. Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In WindowsXP, 2K & 3K, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options | View. With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Outbox.dbx} and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE. Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.
