When I compose newsgroup messages (mostly replies), the spellchecker
often does not check much of my new text. If I "send" and then pull the message out of my Outbox and spell-check again before uploading, then OE checks my entire message (this time checking the missed new text and also the quoted text portion). What causes it to miss before the initial send? Is there a solution for this bug or a better work-around? Thanks in advance for help. Regards, mike K |

Are you using OE-QuoteFix? This program can cause problems when spell
checking. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Michael Krantz" <mikek@ethos.net> wrote in message news:Oh1h6FKEGHA.2648@TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl... > When I compose newsgroup messages (mostly replies), the spellchecker > often does not check much of my new text. Nope, not using OE-QuoteFix, at least not to my knowledge.
Is there a way I can verify this for certain? Regards, mike K "Bruce Hagen" <Nospam@mymail.invalid> wrote in message news:uHT2TJKEGHA.3052@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... > Are you using OE-QuoteFix? It would be in Add/Remove programs, so you probably don't have it.
Are you using a third party Spell Check? (They do work well). Or do you have an MS program doing the spell check, such as Word? Make sure the cursor is placed after the final text. The only other thing that comes to mind is a damaged identity, but I don't really suspect it. You could try a new one and test it. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one. If all is well, you can import your messages from the old identity and delete it. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Michael Krantz" <mikek@ethos.net> wrote in message news:OcE$LKLEGHA.1424@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... > Nope, not using OE-QuoteFix, at least not to my knowledge. > > Is there a way I can verify this for certain? > > Regards, > mike K > > "Bruce Hagen" <Nospam@mymail.invalid> wrote in message > news:uHT2TJKEGHA.3052@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... >> Are you using OE-QuoteFix? I know you are using OE with XP/SP2 from your message header: Microsoft
Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2670 But I am trying to find out what Spell Checker you are using. OE 6 does not come with its own spell check. You need Word or an MS Office program. The spell checker in the basic Works 4 through 6 will work with OE. Older and newer versions do not. If you have Works Suite, that includes MS Word and a spell checker that does work with OE. If you are using a spell check from one of these programs, then see: Spell Checking does not work in OE: http://mvps.org/PracticallyNerded/OE...ll%20check.htm Or: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/spellcheck.htm And: An error occurred while the spelling was being checked or: Spell Check was halted: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=224176 If none of the above is applicable, then try a new identity. You would be surprised how many problems are fixed daily in this newsgroup doing this. You can easily delete it if it is not the fix. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Michael Krantz" <mikek@ethos.net> wrote in message news:%23d0da8MEGHA.984@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... > "Bruce Hagen" <Nospam@mymail.invalid> wrote in message > news:uasoCiMEGHA.1088@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... >> It would be in Add/Remove programs, so you probably don't have it. > > Don't see Quotefix or OE-anything there. > >> Are you using a third party Spell Check? If you intersperse your reply with the original message, it won't get
spell checked unless you remove the check mark in Tools, Options, Spelling, Ignore Original Text. With that option selected, it will only spell check text before or after the entire original text. (Note: if you save a message to the Outbox or Drafts and then open it again, OE has lost track of what was original text and will spell check the whole message.) -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Michael Krantz" <mikek@ethos.net> wrote in message news:Oh1h6FKEGHA.2648@TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl... > When I compose newsgroup messages (mostly replies), the spellchecker > often does not check much of my new text. That's what was happening.
That works well for me. I do intersperse, but I clip most of the quotes from previous messages, and the people I reply to usually spell pretty well. :-) Thanks for the help.
