Default What is Motive SmartBridge?

PA Bear,

Thank you for your answer to my initial question, which I've tried to
recover and repost to refresh your memory, but can't find it. But your
reply was on Dec. 30. I have delayed in replying because I have been
trying to learn to do these things you suggested to repair and avoid a
corrupt identity in the future. such as moving my messages to local
folders instead of the default folders; compacting the folders,
disabling the email scanner,. emptying deleted folders daily. Cookies
too?

But I have not been able to find a program entitled Motive SmartBridge
to disable or uninstall it as you said. It is not listed under Add or
Remove Programs, and does not come up with a hard drive search.
Also, I don't understand how to add a new identity. I mean, I can do
the steps under Tools, Accounts, etc, but my ISP always told me that it
had to be done with them so that I could receive my mail. I only have
one account under one name with OE and I get newsgroups through MS
news.

Also Ron Sommer asked what type of mouse I am using and the answer is
an optical corded mouse.I don't highlight the email when deleting
unless it is one I don't open and read first. Is highlighting first a
problem?

Thanks in advance,
Sanandra

Here it is in Google Groups archive:

http://groups.google.com/group/micro...be743b0de2f a

Copy/Paste this link into an IE Addressbar and click GO to open this
newsgroup in your default newsreader:

If you don't have Motive SmartBridge installed, it's not installed and it's
not the cause of your cursor problem. (McAfee VirusScan is another known
culprit.)

I think you're confusing the terms identity and email account (or address):
You can have any number of email accounts running in one identity. See
http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm#storemain.

> [I use] an optical corded mouse

Have you cleaned the underside of the mouse lately, including the lens? If
you use a different mouse, does the problem persist?

I happened to have a moment so I thought I'd refresh your memory for you.
Here's the body of your post in response to the OP and the OP's original
question:

<quote>

Wow, a "sixfer"?!

Tip: Don't post or use your real email address when posting to public
newsgroups or forums.

A1. Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity (File >
Identities > Add new identity). Assuming all is well, import messages from
the old Identity before deleting it (File > Identities > Manage Identities).

To avoid such corruption in future:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

- Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only).

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

A2 (cursor). Disable or uninstall Motive SmartBridge (installs with your ISP
software to allow them to monitor connection problems without input from
you).

A3 (newsgroup posting). This one made it. Use the MS newsserver to access
and post to these MS newsgroups: news://msnews.microsoft.com. No
subscriptions/passwords, posts appear within seconds & messages are archived
for a minimum of 90 days.

A4 (dupes). POP3 mail (e.g., name@charter.net):
http://www.insideoe.com/problems/bugs.htm#pop3uidl

HTTP (Hotmail) and IMAP (AOL): http://www.insideoe.com/faqs/why.htm#dupes

A5. Firefox as default browser has nothing to do with any of the above.

A6. Forwarded emails are not attachments unless you attach the email to a
message.
