Hello!
I re-installed WindowsXP and saved the my instorage.dbx (573mb) on a CDRW then saved a copy on my new desktop. It seems I cannot simply drag it into my new OE mailstorage location. When I do this, OE lists the file name but no data. Any suggestions? Thanks a million. |

Easiest way is to create a new local folder and called it OldMail. Open the
new folder one time, then close Outlook Express. Now go to your saved DBX file on the Desktop, right click it and clear the Read-Only attribute that was set when you copied it to a CD. Rename it OldMail.dbx and insert it (using Windows Explorer) into your message store folder so that it will overwrite the existing but empty OldMail.dbx you created earlier. In Windows XP, the DBX files are hidden by default by the operating system, so to find your message store folder (where your DBX file are), you'll need to modify the search criteria to include "searching for hidden files." When you've done that, you can again open Outlook Express and your messages should be found in your OldMail folder. But I'd suggest the first order of business would be to clean out un needed messages from that folder or archive them in other new folders to reduce the DBX file size, then compact your message store folder. Allowing any folder (DBX file) to grow to much more than 100 MB is an invitation to possible loss of stored messages. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped.
