Problems with OE continually shutting down

Default Problems with OE continually shutting down

When I open Internet Exploer and then go to OE6, I am experiencing an ongoing
(30 days+) problem. About 95% of the time OE is unable to get messages - will
give me an error meaage and askif I want to end the problem to microsoft. I
have found the only solutions that work sometimes are either to reboot the
entire system or take down our personal firewall and put it back on when I am
done getting email. As I mentioned, this works only sometimes and it seems
that I should not have to go through all this just to get email. We use
Adaware and Norton Anti Virus.
I have checked to make sure that I have installed all microsoft, norton and
OE updates. Please help me - I really appreciate it!!

If you have Norton checking emails, disable it as it offers no
additional protection and can cause problems like these.

Also:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupted. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move
your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no
folders are open. Then: File>Work Offline (or double click Working Online in
the Status Bar). File>Folder>Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

In Tools>Options>Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and
leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.
