Hey guys, I've tried to download and install Windows Media Player 10 numerous
times only to be stopped during the final stages of installation. Each time I get a message that says the player cannot install because it "failed to pass windows logo testing". I hope somebody can help me with this, not sure what to do. I would greatly appreciate your cooperation! Thanks, Don |

Similar problem, have tried several times over past several months to
download Windows Media Player 10, and stops at final stage of installation with message that Windows MP 10 "is not compatible with this version of Windows. Using Windows XP, SP2, and the Microsoft download is supposedly set up specifically for XP SP2. Called Microsoft, they passed the buck - and claimed that it could be a Toshiba problem!! Their error message is not very specific, no error code or direct lead to any solution. I may just delete Windows Player completely. Has any one else found a solution for this? Who exactly did you contact? You can reach me directly about this specific issue at zachd at microsoft dot com. [As always, any other contact/request for information should stick to the newsgroups.] That message should mean you corrupted your system by deleting wmploc.dll from your system32 directory. If you restore it from the dllcache on your hard drive, you should be good to go again. -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. I would suspect that you are not up to date on http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com , and that in particular your certificate store is out of date. Windows Update should fix this. -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. I have wmploc.dll in the system32 directory. I have updated Windows XP Home all that can. There are no other updates available. When I try to install WMP10, it appears to get almost all done and then I get an error message that simply states it was unable to complete setup and that I should run setupo again, which, if I do, the same thing happens. It also asks me if I want to reinstall WMP10 from Windows Update site, which, if I do that, the same thing happens as above with the same uninformative error message. It also will not allow me to revert to a previous version of WMP. If I try to do that, I get an error message stating that it can't go back or something like that. I upgraded my Real Player install not long ago, but do not remember for sure that WMP worked before that. (I do not use any media players that often.) I suspect that Real Player has corrupted a registry entry or two that WMP10 install needs. Help. "zachd [ms]" wrote: > > Who exactly did you contact? By the way, WMP WAS working properly at one point a couple of months ago. I
think that was WMP9. When I realized it was no longer working, I tried to update to WMP10 and started seeing the problem noted below in my first post. By all appearances, WMP LOOKS like it is installed (icons, etc.) and when I do a manual download of the install program and run it, it goes completely through the setup seemingly successfully even to the point of askinng me about default settings, etc. (However, it says it is the WMP 9 setup program, NOT 10.) When I click to finish the setup, I get an error message box that says WMP is not installed properly and must be reinstalled (which I';ve done at least 30 times now). Thanks. What happens if you run wmplayer.exe directly?
