Found the answer.

Make (and run) this reg file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MMS]

"Source Filter"="{6B6D0800-9ADA-11d0-A520-00A0D10129C0}"

"Animation"="dxmasf.dll,150"

"URL Protocol"=""

@="URL:mms Protocol"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MMS\DefaultIcon]

@="C:\\Program Files\\Windows Media Player\\wmplayer.exe,-120"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MMS\shell]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MMS\shell\open]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MMS\shell\open\command]

@="\"C:\\Program Files\\Windows Media Player\\wmplayer.exe\" \"%L\""

? WMP should set that up by default, but please note that "mms://" in a web
page does work but is NOT supported. So you can use this for your internal
testing if you would like, but it is not something you should rely on for
any business or shared endeavor.
