Default WMP 10 Shuts Down With No Error Message

I installed WMP 10 and it worked with no problems. Recently it only plays two
short media files with no sound. If I select another file to play it shuts
down. If I double click on a media file it opens and shuts down with no error
message after about 2 seconds.

I have found that if I open a short file (that plays) and then open a longer
file with sound it will play that file with no problems. However if I then
try to open a second longer file it again shuts down. The longest movie file
that I have is about 800Mb and although this will open with this method it
will not play any sound.

In trying to solve this I deleted the sound player (by removing a
svchost.exe file) WMP 10 then worked just fine (with no sound) opening and
playing all files. On reboot the problem is back.

The problem seemed to occurr soon after I installled DVD region free and
ultra DVD but these work with no problem.

That's not really enough to go on-

should help you pin things down that much further. =\
