Does mmswitch.ax exist on your system?
Do you get the chance to send a crash report to Microsoft?

If you rename or remove that mmswitch.ax file, does the player then work?

How did mmswitch.ax get on your system? Did you install some sort of codec
pack? Those are very bad.

.........
It had to come from somewhere.... MS doesn't install it, and it was never
"released", just installed by some really not desirable codec packages.

Well, you'd want to get rid of it. Uninstalling it would be best, but you
need to not have it on your system if you want anything to work correctly.

my husband had one of his computer friends look at it and he installed a
codec pack to try and fix it for us so it was only there in the last few
days. BUt I have fixed the problem because it all did happen after windows
did an update so I just uninstalled service pack 2 then reinstalled it and
all the recent updates again and now everything is working fine. I also
removed that file of course. THanks so much for your help nice to know
someone out there is trying to help us out!

Sure, no problem. And if you do get a chance to suggest to the friend to
Stay Away from codec packs, I'd appreciate it. One fewer potential source
of troubles is always good. =)
