Hi all,

I have downloaded some online lectures...

However the Media Player 10.0 does not allow playback at a speed different
than 1.0...

I have previously successfully played at adjustable speed e.g. 2.0x, 3.0x
for some other video contents and musics... even back to Media Play 9.0 ...

What's wrong with Media Play 10.0? Maybe it was something wrong with the
video files?

What can I do to make these files speed adjustable any way? I really need
this feature greatly!

I'm not sure, but if I recall correctly, WMP enables you to control the
speed only when viewing WMV files, not AVIs. On the other hand, players
like Irfanview, Media Player Classic, VLC, and Zoomplayer (all free)
enable you to control the speed of AVIs.

Hi bill,

The video I was playing were WMV files...

So it was quite strange.

Also I would like to ask:

Is there a way to do speed-up playback while watching online video, instead
of downloading them first then playing locally?

I hope I can adjust the playback speed when watching video lectures on
line... because the video content is synchonized with slideshows, so if I
download them and playback locally, the slideshow feature will be lost...

If Media Player Classic can do this, how can I set it to be the default
media player in the IE browser?

None of these players you've mentioned worked for speed adjustment... Media
Player Classic does allow fast playback, but the sound and the video are
broken and illegible at all. Infranview even crashed while loading the video
file.

I agree, and I have no idea why this would be so.

You are limited by the speed of transmission, servers, and whatever
else. You can't play what is not yet there.

Good question. Never tried,but somebody must have an answer to this
one.

If you confirm, as I suspect, that you can't speed up speed up
streamed video, perhaps you can pause at appropriate times to maintain
synchronization? Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I use MPC often, and it mostly behaves very well. Never noticed any
problems with broken video. I hope you are not expecting sound to be
normal while watching a speeded-up video.

Can't coment on Irfanview's crash. Zoomplayer has an option (amongst
its thousands) where you tell it to PLAY the video while fast
forwarding.

As fasr as I recall, it is not possible to adjust speed of WMVs with
MPC or IV. Can't recall about Zoomplayer. If you feel that you want to
pursue this course of action, you may want to try out VLC Player
(www.videolan.org) as well. Each of these players works differently, so
perhaps one will be more suitable for your purposes.

Hi I am trying VLC Player... it can playback video faster but without
voice...

For example, when I play it back at 2x, it has no sound... when I reset it
back to 1x speed, it then starts to have sound...

I woke up earlier than usual this morning, so I decided play a bit. I
tried changing speed with MPC and I had no problems with some MPEG4
AVIs. Of course, the voice changed in pitch with the increased sound.
If you have problems then perhaps there is something different in your
files.

I also tried Zoomplayer briefly, and, although I get sound when I play
in slow motion, I haven't managed same for playing at a faster speed.
There are many, many options in ZP, and I am guessing that one of them
would enable sound on fast playback.

I forgot to mention that PowerDVD also allows you to change the speed,
though in the case of the AVI I tested with it only went to 2X (up to
32X with DVDs). It does retain the sound, though.
