Exactly the same here. In my case, I upgraded to XP from 2000 and then went
to Media Player 10. Any clues would be greatly appreciated because this is annoying. Geoff. "David Teich" wrote: > I put an album in my CD and MP shows "unknown artist". DITTO!!!!
My MP10 player was installed with my new laptop. Also, if I edit my library, it takes FOREVER to manually do it. If I change a song title from "Track_01" to something meaningful, it takes about 90 seconds to accept my entry. Same thing with artist, album name, genre, etc. It's brutal. If someone out there knows anything about this, please let us know. "Geoff" wrote: > Exactly the same here. Nobody seems interested in helping us, so here's what I've been doing.
RealPlayer reads the db info accurately but it's user interface isn't as nice. I load CD's with RealPlayer, then I import then to MP. Depending on my mood, I'll then use MP or RP, since both will work. It's a pain, but it works. Thanks for the tip David.
Ty, I have exactly the same symptoms when trying to edit any track detail i.e. it takes minutes to do just one field. I'm sure this will get some attention when more people start suffering from it. Oh well. Geoff. "David Teich" wrote: > Nobody seems interested in helping us, so here's what I've been doing. > RealPlayer reads the db info accurately but it's user interface isn't as > nice. That should have been addressed before via this: http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary or similar. For the v10 player, the database would be the latest .wmdb file under: === %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player === -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. Thanks for the update Zach.
I had scanned your page before and tried deleting/rebuilding my media library file. Unfortunately, it makes no difference to either problem: 1. Updating an "unknown" cd and finding the info, doesn't update the track listing 2. When you come to update a track element (e.g. artist name etc) it takes minutes to complete. Something else is screwed up. Geoff. "zachd [ms]" wrote: > > That should have been addressed before via this: > http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary > or similar. Hi Zach.
I created a temp user with admin privileges and the same thing happened with that account. No joy. Geoff. I think I have got a useable WMP10 system again. Here is what I did
1. Go to Add/Remove Program + Windows Components. Remove Windows Media Player. It is a bit like removing messenger i.e. it's not really removed but it is good enough. 2. Go to the microsoft site and download WMP10 and let it install. Bingo. All the dll's etc seem to be updated. Track info is retrieved and used from the web. Also I am able to update track info by hand and the response is immediate rather than minutes. Hope this works for you. Geoff.
