WMP quit working. When WMP is started, only get small window with "Error" in
blue title bar, yellow ! warning triangle and OK button. Previous exe may have been moved or deleted. No good restore point available. Trying to reload WMP10, not sure if that is version of previous player or not. Get error while downloading "This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows." OS is XP Home 2002 SP2 on a Sony VIAO. Run XP Video Decoder Checkup and get warning that Intervideo Video Decoder is not compatible with WMP10. Any help appreciated, teenage daughter upset see can't watch music videos! Also have issues with Windows auto update. It is turned off and greyed out, can't enable it. Security Center can't turn it on and Manage Settings shows it off and greyed out. |

You've deleted wmploc.dll from your system32 directory. Copy it back to there (should also be available in your dllcache directory) and you should be good to reinstall again. =\ -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. Either you're not an admin on the system, you have it disabled via system policy, or you've had it disabled via virus/trojan that's trying to cloak itself. You should be able to manually go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com , but that may or may not be enabled. I believe there's .windowsupdate newsgroup that might have more information than I would have, though. -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
