I've got some of my own compilation CDs for use in the car that were
burned using Nero (I think). Playing the CD in WMP10 give Unknown Album, Unknown Track etc. so I edit the Now Playing playlist and enter the Title and Artist but when I try to save the playlist I can't as the Save Playlist menu items are disabled. However, if I remove the CD, exit and restart WMP, put the CD back in it shows the correct track list for the CD (although it's still called Unknown Album. I have searched the disk and the registry but can't find where it stores the track list. So, where does WMP store the track list and how can I save it as a named playlist? Regards, Parish |

You can't save playlists for CD files. You would need to rip those tracks if you wanted to add them to a playlist. The track list information is saved to the library file, which isn't readable/editable outside of the player. =) -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. I've since discovered that when I burn a CD using WMP that it remembers not only the tracklist, but the album and artist name as well so can identify the CD in the drive which is what I would like to do for CDs burned in another app. As I said in my original post, it remembers the tracklist I enter but insists on naming the album 'Unknown Album (dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss)' - the timestamp being to used to guarantee a unique "unlnown" name I guess. Is there no way to edit the album name? It would be a shame if this isn't possible - an oversight by MS perhaps? - as it does everything else. Regards, Parish |

Click the "Find Album Info" in the Rip pane to edit that. =) -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. Seems a strange place to put it for your own compilation CDs; even stranger that it uploads the info to WindowsMedia since no0one else will have the CD :-\ Guess it just means that you can play your CD on any PC with a 'net connection and WMP can get the track list? Thanks for your help. Much appreciated. Regards, Parish |
