In WMP10, on XPsp2, the "update codecs automatically" checkbox is grayed out.
I have tried reinstalling WMP10, and that didn't change the situation. Any suggestions? |

Additional info: When I roll back to WMP9, the "update codecs automatically"
box is greyed out there, too. "jongira" wrote: > In WMP10, on XPsp2, the "update codecs automatically" checkbox is grayed out. > I have tried reinstalling WMP10, and that didn't change the situation. Any > suggestions? > |

Well, considering that the only codecs available on that server are Microsoft codecs that you should already have and a handful of unsigned codecs from other vendors that you can get elsewhere, codec download doesn't add much value. What specifically do you feel you can accomplish by turning that back on? This can be turned off by group policy or if you are not an admin on the system. -Z -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. I'm trying to recover from the mistake of installing a bad mp3 codec, a
website i found suggested renaming the l3codec*.acms to .BAK (in the sys32 folder) and let the WMP download and reinstall the original codecs. thanks, Jong zachd [ms] wrote: > Well, considering that the only codecs available on that server are > Microsoft codecs that you should already have and a handful of unsigned > codecs from other vendors that you can get elsewhere, codec download doesn't > add much value. > > What specifically do you feel you can accomplish by turning that back on? > > This can be turned off by group policy or if you are not an admin on the > system. > > -Z > -- > (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) > See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. > This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. > -- > > "Jongira" <Jongira@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:E2F89C0D-5565-4AFC-AC8F-75EA34FCAADF@microsoft.com... > > Additional info: When I roll back to WMP9, the "update codecs > > automatically" > > box is greyed out there, too. > > > > "jongira" wrote: > > > >> In WMP10, on XPsp2, the "update codecs automatically" checkbox is grayed > >> out. > >> I have tried reinstalling WMP10, and that didn't change the situation. > >> Any > >> suggestions? > >> |
