Default WMP 9 w/Windows 98SE shuts down

While playing a sound file, song, the player locks up and I would have to
control/alt/delete, end task. Over time it became worse and now it often
requires a restart. Finally I uninstalled and then reinstalled WMP 9 again.
Now I've lost my licenses and many of my sound files I purchased from MSN
Music. In addition, now it shuts down and reports that "Microsoft Media
Player has encountered a problem and needs to shutdown. We are sorry for the
inconvenience."

Any suggestions besides going to REALPlayer har, har?? Any help is
appreciated...

Charlie

How does dxdiag.exe say your system checks out?

(speaking for myself and doing this in my free time)
See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.

Now Playing: "Nancy Sinatra - These Boots Are Made for Walkin' / Bass Beat"
by "DJ Zeph" in WMP10.

Thx for the response zachd.
I have DirectX 9.0c. I did the tests and it tests OK except that it reports
that "Your sound card does not support hardware buffering. Sounds will only
play back from software buffers." I have a SIS 7012 Audio Driver and it is
MPU-401 Compatable
(whatever that is??). I have a NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 [Display adapter]
and I use dial up connection. I always send in error reports and I have
installed all the critical updates. Also, I read some of your FAQ page and
saw the mmswitch.ax question. I did a search for that and a few of the other
ax and dlls and they don't show up.

Thanks again...
Charlie
