Hi All
Running windows media player 10 and would like to sync my music to my windows smartphone (also running MP10 all be it a cut down version) Problem is I've a few gigs of music (all encoded between 128 and 196 kbps) and only 1Gb on my phone. Is there any way to have MP reduce the bitrate (to say 64kbps) of the files it syncs over to the phone. I assume syncing with the phone is the same as with an mp3 player. Is this possible at all ? or do I have to re-rip all my CDs ? cheers for any help gerryR |

The process is called "Transcoding" - converting a file from oe bitrate to another. If you plug in the device first and let it sync (so MP can see it). Now go to Tools -> Options ->Devices. Click on your Smartphone device and then the Properties button. You'll see an option to "When syncing use this quality level" - drag the slider to the lowest level. Then try to sync your device with a playlist. The synced tracks should be at about 64kbps - it used to be 48kbps minimum with WMP9 but it was increased to 64kbs with WMP10. HTH CHeers - Neil |

One point to note, is that you cant transcode a purchase track, ie a
DRM protected track. |
