.... and it's driving me batty! I'm on XP (2002) and using WM 10.
I'm playing a legit store bought CD but all information shows as unknown (artist, album and tracks are listed as numbers). I click on find album info to update, everything looks fine then I select finish and nothing saves. I've even checked my privacy settings to make sure that I've ok'd automatic updates and I have. Even when I copy songs to my library information is not saved WHAT GIVES? HOW CAN I FIX THIS? I miss my old player. |

I have the same problem and there are a lot of posts in the Windows Media
General list about it too. No one is answering. Does anyone know how to contact the WMP10 product manager? I have a brand new computer and should not be having this problem. Oddly enough I have WMP10 on 2 other computers and they don't have this problem. Could someone *Please Help*? "Kimminy in SF" wrote: > ... and it's driving me batty! The worst part about answering is when people don't pay attention and then say nobody is answering. ;-) To repeat myself: === If WMP won't update the album info: If the Media Guide shows up in WMP, then that's good. If not, WMP can't connect to the metadata servers and you need to fix WMP's connection settings. If clearing IE's Temporary Files cache using IE's settings menu helps restore this, your IE cache was corrupt. If running "regsvr32.exe wmp.dll" fixes this, you probably have a Dell. If none of that works, you either have a security/permissions problem or library corruption. === Hope that helps. =) -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. Well, I searched the posts here and in the general forum and if you posted a
response to this problem either I missed it or I didn't understand it. Actually, I don't really understand all of what you are saying here, either. I read your website, too. Anyway, I ended up downloading WMP 10 and installing it over itself and everytthing works now. Maybe that will help the others with the same problem. Thanks for the response. :-) "zachd [ms]" wrote: > > The worst part about answering is when people don't pay attention and then > say nobody is answering. ;-) > > To repeat myself: > === > If WMP won't update the album info: > > If the Media Guide shows up in WMP, then that's good. It's been a recurring problem but hard to pin down. It may just start working again spontaneously. |

From what she said, I'm betting she had one of the "problem Dells". There's something wrong in some certain Dells that get fixed up up if you simply reregister wmp.dll - which a reinstall would do. But running "regsvr32 wmp.dll" is superior. -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. Oh - I forget to tell you that what I did was re-run "regsvr32.exe wmp.dll".
It was that simple.
