I've noticed that many people have had problems with the IMAPI
CD-burning service, which WMP uses to create CDs. I ran into the same issue recently, and tried all the usual fixes -- removed third-party software, cleaned out the UpperFilters / LowerFilters entries, reinstalled WMP10, all with no luck. On a whim, I tried a program called CreateCD, a command-line tool written by Alex Feinman that uses the IMAPI interface to do CD burning, and returns some slightly more detailed error information than WMP does when something goes wrong. The error it returned: "80040155: Interface not registered." Some more digging told me this was due to IMAPI no longer being properly registered with the system, and that reinstalling WMP10 would fix it. Well, I'd tried that with no luck, so what now? Then I remembered something else I've written about separately -- about how a damaged COM+ catalog can cause system components to not register correctly. I performed a repair on the COM+ catalog (see below), rebooted, reinstalled WMP10, and IMAPI CD burning worked once again. How to repair the COM+ catalog (link to my own article, URL may wrap): http://searchwinsystems.techtarget.c...tml?bucket=ETA And a link to an article about all this in my own blog, for external reference (URL may also wrap): http://www.thegline.com/win2k/2005/1...g-windows.html I hope this helps, as I've noticed a lot of people having this very problem. |
