Default very strange internet video problem

i have windows media player 10 installed on my computer and it is desingnated
as the defualt media program to play all my files. but sometimes when i go
onto a website (eg. NHL.com) and try to open a streaming video link for some
reason it attempts to use a much older version of media player (on the about
tab it says:
Window media player control
1992-1999
version 6.4.09.1130) to open it and i get the message "The specified stream
type is not recognized. (Error=C00D07E2)
Cannot open. Please verify that the path and filename are correct and try
again. (Error=C00D07E2)

now i dont want it to work on the older version i just want windows media
player 10 to be used for those streaming video. can anyone help please

Out of interest, are you using IE or Firefox as your web browser ? The
web page they've created will specify to use the older player (6.4)
but players 7-10 should interpret that by default and show as the most
recent player. My firefox has never done that, and always shows the
6.4 player (which is more or less OK).

Either way, you should still be able to play those videos : If they're
a more recent type of video than WMP6.4 can play by default, you can
get the recent codecsto install for it from here :

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

You may have to live with the 6.4 "look" if it isn't working in your
browser.

Cheers - Neil
