It appears that WMA 9 Pro codecs are only avaible under WM Encoder and not
the WM Player, correct? I was hoping to rip music based on a 256kbps rate
(the same as those downloaded from MSN Music) but do not see that option
under WM Player. Does the WMAudio Pro codec compress to the same file size
as the normal WMA codec (assuming both are using the same bit rate) or does
the Pro version compress better than the normal codec? In other words, would
I get better quality yet smaller file sizes using the WM Encoder rather than
the Player to rip music?

Pro is multi-channel. Using it for audio CDs doesn't make a heck of a lot
of sense... I'm assuming what you actually are asking about here is how to
get WMP to rip in WMA at 256kbps?

I can't think of any case where you would want to use WMA-Pro to rip an
audio CD. Even with the Encoder, you'd want to use WMA.

Thanks for responding. So, is it possible to rip an audio CD at 256kbps?
Again, that is the bit rate of downloaded songs from MSN Music.

You mean, like what would happen if you went to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\P references, and set value
"WMARecordRate" to "256000"? Seems to work to me.
