dear all,
would appreciate help & advise. i am still using wmp v. 8. i want to know how to clear the history of files played from the list that you obtained when you clicked on file. the advice that i found pertained to a more recent version of wmp that i do not wish to install. not only that, eventually i am hoping that this 'memorization' function can be disabled. thank you. |

The windows media bonus pack has a tool to delete the "MRU list" as it's called (most recently used). Have a go here and let us know how you get on : http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...k/default.aspx Run the "tray control" and right click it to delete the MRU list. HTH Cheers - Neil |

hello neil,
thank you for your response. quick question before i install this: 1. would this installation makes irreversible change to my machine/registry that cannot be solved by uninstalled? 2. can i uninstall the pack once i cleared the mru list? and outwith this (and my preferred option if there is one): 1. is there a folder of mru list kept somewhere, and or 2. registry key used by wmp v. 8 that i can delete manually to get the same effect without having to install yet another soft/bloatware that for most of their part, functionally i don't really need. if you think i am reluctant to install, you are right. i am just wary of installing any software in general and ms or ms modifying in particular. if i can avoid it i try to. thanks again for your help. kind regrds, "Neil Smith [MVP Digital Media]" wrote: > On Sat, 26 Nov 2005 15:47:02 -0800, "xppuser" > <xppuser@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > > >dear all, > > > >would appreciate help & advise. i am still using wmp v. 8. i want to know > >how to clear the history of files played from the list that you obtained when > >you clicked on file. the advice that i found pertained to a more recent > >version of wmp that i do not wish to install. not only that, eventually i am > >hoping that this 'memorization' function can be disabled. > > The windows media bonus pack has a tool to delete the "MRU list" as > it's called (most recently used). > > Have a go here and let us know how you get on : > http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...k/default.aspx > > Run the "tray control" and right click it to delete the MRU list. > > HTH > Cheers - Neil > |

It will make changes to your registry - that's how program installation works. Nothing I think that can't be removed by uninstalling though. >2. can i uninstall the pack once i cleared the mru list? The advantage to doing that is what ? You may as well hang on to it, it's free and has other useful tools in it (and doesn't take up much disk space) >and outwith this (and my preferred option if there is one): > >1. is there a folder of mru list kept somewhere, and or No >2. registry key I try to avoid encouraging people to go rummaging round in the registry if there's an available tool to do the job. Bear in mind you can run the bonus pack whenever you want, wheras dealing with the registry, one slip up can potentially make your machine unstable or worst-case, impossible to boot without repair tools. >used by wmp v. 8 Dunno about 8, haven't ever used it. You could try : HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences\Di sableMRU and set that value to 1 (if it's present). > that i can delete manually to get the same effect without >having to install yet another soft/bloatware that for most of their part, >functionally i don't really need. > >if you think i am reluctant to install, you are right. i am just wary of >installing any software in general and ms or ms modifying in particular. if i >can avoid it i try to. > >thanks again for your help. > >kind regrds, > > >"Neil Smith [MVP Digital Media]" wrote: > >> On Sat, 26 Nov 2005 15:47:02 -0800, "xppuser" >> <xppuser@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: >> >> >dear all, >> > >> >would appreciate help & advise. i am still using wmp v. 8. i want to know >> >how to clear the history of files played from the list that you obtained when >> >you clicked on file. the advice that i found pertained to a more recent >> >version of wmp that i do not wish to install. not only that, eventually i am >> >hoping that this 'memorization' function can be disabled. >> >> The windows media bonus pack has a tool to delete the "MRU list" as >> it's called (most recently used). >> >> Have a go here and let us know how you get on : >> http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...k/default.aspx >> >> Run the "tray control" and right click it to delete the MRU list. >> >> HTH >> Cheers - Neil >> |
