I can play music on my Windows Media Player, but I can't hear it. No sound is
actually working on my computer, not just on Windows Media Player. It shows it is playing but no sound is coming out, but the speakers are all plugged in and there is nothing wrong with them as far as I know. |

Check the 'Sounds and Audio Devices' ( or its equivilant) applet in the control panel to be sure all sound types have their volume set and that 'Mute' is not checked.. |

Actually I am experiencing the exact same problem. I have already checked
all of the Sounds and Devices areas - everything is turned up to almost maximum and no mute boxes are checked. I also reset all of my optional enhancements (equalizer, etc) to the defaults. My sound cut out mid song a few minutes ago and I cannot get it back. (I had successfully played the song and many others just earlier today). I'm using XP 2002. Anymore advice? Hello,
I fixed my problem last night and I feel silly now... It had nothing to do with WMP. I have a laptop and somehow I had managed to press the Mute button on the laptop itself... Once I pressed it again the sound came back. If you have a laptop I would try that. If that doesn't work, check Control Panel, Sounds & Audio, Speaker Volume. Make sure it's not muted or turned down to low. If neither of those work, maybe you should dig around in the posts some more. I found several which mention a similar speaker problem. Good luck!!
